Poetry for Non-Poets

Saturdays, February 13 // 4 PM - 6 PM

This monthly meet-up is designed for you--the poetry lay-person who wants to understand what all the fuss is about. We'll talk about some poems and ways to access them. We'll also talk about some common objections to contemporary poetry and look at some of the major currents in poetry today. Hopefully, you'll leave the class with a new or renewed interest in getting out and hearing some of the great work being done by poets in Spokane! Free and open to the public.

ABOUT THE TEACHER | THOM CARAWAY was Spokane's first Poet Laureate. He's noticed that every week there are workshops and readings for and by the writers, but little that helps connect new audiences to those readings. He teaches creative writing at Whitworth University. He also serves as editor of Rock & Sling, a journal of witness, and the edited Railtown Almanac, a Spokane Poetry Anthology.
