Supporter Spotlight: INDABA Coffee

What goes on behind the scenes for Brendan to have a chance at encountering an "ani-stone witch gave him power like cheeta speed and falcon flight"?

What goes on behind the scenes for Brendan to have a chance at encountering an "ani-stone witch gave him power like cheeta speed and falcon flight"?

When people walk in our creative space for an event, workshop, or just to drop in, two things normally happen: they get really excited, then they want to know how we exist.

It’s easy to respond to the first because we are equally excited. Each person—kids and adults alike—who walks through the Spark Central door is going to have a chance to play and what is more exciting than that?

The second is harder to answer. Partially because it’s sort of complicated and partially because it is not very fun. The canned answer for how we exist is grants, individual donations, and sponsorships. Are you bored yet? I am.

The more accurate, exciting answer is that we exist through the support of the community (like you). One of the many ways the community offers up that support is through In-Kind Donations, which simply means when people donate supplies we need that are not money.

Today we want to give a big thanks to one of our most regular in-kind donors: INDABA Coffee. We love INDABA because their coffee is off the charts, the people who work there are always kind and ready to geek out about their product, and “they provide job training to at-risk youth, host community events, and donate a meal for every bag of coffee sold.” They have been West-Central champions since opening in 2009, and recently have expanded their goodness to a downtown location. Their coffee donations provide our volunteers with the coffee buzz they need to help run the center and our fun workshops and playshops.

In-kind donations help build community and we are so grateful to be working in tandem with local superheroes like INDABA. Thank you!
