— Ms. Doran's Third Grade Class

This is an excerpt from Trying to Be Eaten, a book created by Ms. Doran's third class at Holmes Elementary. And we are excited to announce that, thanks in part to Spokane Arts, there will be more hilariously imaginative books like this one coming out next school year.

That's right, Spark Central is a Round Two SAGA Grantee! The award will fund a portion** of the programming costs for West Central Publishing Union. Here's a word from the Spokane Arts website:

The West Central Publishing Union program involves students being bussed during the school day to Spark Central, where they will participate in creative writing workshops that result in the students taking home a personalized, bound, published book that the students can take home to show their family and friends.

If you want to apply for a SAGA Grant, there are awesomely helpful workshops that help you explain your project vividly and succinctly. This is a hugely helpful opportunity and not one that grant-makers often offer, so we encourage everyone interested in taking advantage. We did and found it invaluable.
