all ages • Moving between a range of styles within paintings, Sally Jablonsky shows a respect for: the physical, the pleasure of looking and of making, art making and viewing as an embodied experience, and the importance of questioning aesthetics as an essential part of resistance and survival. As it is a part of the fantasy of ableism, Jablonsky throws away mastery and instead is guided by the pure fun of making, as well as a questioning of her own aesthetic tendencies. Imagery in paintings comes from experiences she’s had that have given her a certain kind of awareness of her body–a new perception and relationship involving care and maintenance, physical feeling, and a mental picture of who and what she is.

Sally Jablonsky, born and raised just south of Spokane, Washington, is a painter, fiddler, and teacher. Jablonsky’s (art) work is influenced by experiences of nature and of being a body with chronic illness, and plays in the space between. She celebrates mutualism as a way of dismantling societal norms that give illness an implied value, thereby allowing her experiences of illness to be a potent way of obtaining information about the world we live in. Sally lives in Spokane, is building a fiddle army, making art, and watching the trees move in the wind.
