Community & Family Event VOLUNTEERS
Community and family events connect community members of all types and ages with creative programming. Volunteers help to set up, facilitate activities, and clean up. These events create amazing connections within our community.
SATURDAY, MAY 18 · 10:30 AM - 12 PM
All Ages · Join us for an all-ages storytelling and art workshop event, co-facilitated by author Kao Kalia Yang and illustrator Jiemei Lin of The Rock in My Throat. Follow along through visuals and sounds as Kalia and Jiemei collaboratively read, then create your own story! Participants' stories will be “published” (printed into mini zines/booklets) by the end of the event. Come together to listen and share your story at the end of the program. Wishing Tree Books will be there to sell The Rock in My Throat, too!
This program is presented in partnership with Asians for Collective Liberation. RSVP required. Please RSVP here!

All ages · Embark on a journey of creative self-expression! Whether on your own or with guidance, ease into simple exercises that explore basic artistic concepts. You could also respond to an optional mindfulness prompt. Our program provides a relaxed and inspiring environment for self-discovery, with all materials provided. (Or bring your own!) Try it at your own pace in a low-pressure setting.

TUESDAYS · 5 - 7 PM
All ages · What are zines anyway?! Taking their name from the word "magazine," zines are DIY, paper-based creations that let anyone anywhere say anything! Drop in and learn how to make your very own 8-page mini-zine using a single piece of paper and Spark's art supplies. Feel free to use one of our prompts, or come up with your own ideas in mind. At the end of the workshop, Spark staff or volunteers can help us photocopy our zines so we can trade with one another. All are welcome!
