Sn̓ilíʔtn̓: Writing About Home · A Book Project

  • Spark Central 1214 West Summit Parkway Spokane, WA, 99201 United States (map)

3 Sessions  ·  Mon. November 7, 14, 21 • 7:00 to 8:30 PM

In this exploratory, three-session poetry and short prose workshop, participants will learn elements of the Salish language and dive into perspectives of heritage and home with the help of instructor LaRae Wiley from The Salish School of Spokane and poet Laura Read. The first two sessions of this workshop will include an introduction to some basic Salish vocabulary and common phrases, a study of selected poems, some written by Native poets, and creative writing exercises inspired by these poems. The third meeting of this workshop will provide time to edit and refine writing generated from earlier prompts alongside other participants with the help of our project leads.

Participants' final pieces will be published in a professionally-bound book featuring original art. Participation in the first two sessions of this workshop and our community event release on Thursday, April 20th will be asked of all participants who are able to attend. Registration fee includes your copy of this limited-edition, professionally printed book!

We will have limited childcare available for ages 5 and up in our Studio space. Upon registration, you will be asked to reserve your childcare spot(s).

Book Project writing workshop dates: 11/7, 11/14, and 11/21 for an optional revision session, all from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.
