Scablands Lit and Friends of the Bing invite you to the third annual Lilac City Fairy Tales, a Spark Central Benefit featuring original stories, poems, and songs from some of the brightest artistic talent in our region.

The event will take place on March 25th, 7 PM, at the Bing Theater. It will feature a special performance of Scene I, Act I of Macbeth, local, award-winning writers, and a musical act performed by local fiddler and singer Caridwen Irvine Spatz. It’s a magical, one-of-a-kind evening that celebrates women artists in the Pacific Northwest. Participants include Seattle’s Elissa Washuta, Portland's Alexis M. Smith, Missoula’s Henrietta Goodman, and a host of Spokane authors: Elissa Ball, Asa Maria Bradley, Leyna Krow, Claire McQuerry, Kate Peterson, and Kat Smith. There will also be a complimentary “Weird Sisters” anthology of prose and poetry published, and all writers at any stage of their writing career (yes, men, too), are invited to submit.

For the event, authors will read original short works—a poem, short story, creative essay or comic—inspired by the theme, “Weird Sisters.” The theme evokes fairy tales such as Hansel and Gretel and Baba Yaga, and contemporary poems such as “The Witch Has Told You a Story” by Ava Leavell Haymon and “Obedience, or the Lying Tale,” by Jennifer Chang. The authors are invited to interpret the theme figuratively or literally, with or without fairy tale aesthetics. The result will showcase the multifarious talent of women in our region.

As ever, Lilac City Fairy Tales promises to cast a spell on the Spokane arts scene.

Lilac City Fairy Tales: A Spark Central Benefit is presented by Friends of the Bing at The Bing Crosby Theater, located at 901 W. Sprague Avenue at 7:00 PM. Doors will open at 6:00 PM. Pricing: Adults online $16 (+fees); $22 at the door. Students online: $11 (+fees); 17 at the door. Tickets may be purchased at friendsofthebing.org or at the door the night of the event.
