Personal Landscapes: Spark’s Regional Arts Exhibition

"Family" by Ellie Goetzinger

Celebrating Artists with Disabilities
March 2026 | Chase Gallery, Spokane City Hall

Personal Landscapes brings together artists from across the Inland Northwest who identify as having disabilities to share the stories, perspectives, and lived experiences that shape their creative worlds. Organized by Spark Central in partnership with The Arc of Spokane, Side by Side, Project ID, and additional community organizations, this annual regional exhibition celebrates the vibrant talents of artists with disabilities.

By centering the voices and experiences of each artist, Personal Landscapes highlights the many ways art fosters connection, visibility, and belonging. The exhibition invites viewers to consider how creativity reflects individual journeys while also weaving us more closely together as a community.

Theme Prompt

Artists are invited to respond to the theme Personal Landscapes by submitting artwork that reflects an aspect of who they are or how they experience the world. This may include:

  • Personal stories or memories

  • Emotions or inner landscapes

  • Identities and relationships

  • Places, environments, or community connections

  • Ideas, movements, or moments that shape their artistic expression

Artists may also explore how their creative work expresses the ways they move through daily life, engage with others, or make meaning in their communities.

There is no right or wrong interpretation—artists are encouraged to respond in ways that feel authentic and meaningful to them.

All mediums are welcome, including (but not limited to) painting, drawing, sculpture, poetry, sequential art, video, or music.

Submission Deadline: February 16, 2026.

Drop location: Spark Central, 1214 W. Summit Parkway, Spokane, WA 99201

About the Facilitator:
Missy Narrance

Missy began drawing portraits as a child, learning the grid method from her grandfather. After stepping away from art in high school, she later rediscovered her practice while navigating significant health challenges that made traditional work difficult. Embracing the experimental and intuitive process of being a self-taught artist, she now works across acrylic, watercolor, scratchboard, pen, digital media, and mixed-media techniques.

Missy brings both technical skill and deep empathy to her teaching. She envisions Spark’s Open Studio as a place where artists of all abilities can explore personal themes, experiment with materials, and receive individualized support in bringing their creative ideas to life. A significant part of her studio practice includes commissioned pet portraits—work she finds deeply meaningful and rewarding.
